Overview of 2010-2011 School Improvement Plan

Goal 1:
Improve math and reading skills
Strategies:
  • Early Intervention Program (EIP) and Title I services for eligible students.
  • After School tutoring available two times per week.
  • Teachers use a variety of assessment tools to monitor progress of students' reading and math: benchmark tests, DIBELS, STAR reading and fluency readings.
  • Teachers disaggregate and analyze benchmark data and use flexible grouping and teacher rotation during REAP time to address students needs.
  • Students participate in the school-wide reading program through accelerated reader and reading projects.
  • Teachers utilize standards based strategies within the classroom such as flexible grouping, differentiated instruction, standards based grading, word walls and progress monitoring.
Goal 2:
Improve writing skills
Strategies:
  • Students in grade 3 and 4 participate in mock essay writing.
  • Students in grade 5 participate in the "Write On" benchmarks.
  • Students participate in the local Young Authors writing essay contest each year.
  • A school-wide creative writing and celebration program will be implemented.
  • Teachers utilize standards based strategies within the classroom such as flexible grouping, differentiated instruction, standards based grading, progress monitoring.
Goal 3:
Improve parent relations by increasing communication and parent/family involvement activities
Strategies:
  • A principal newsletter will be sent home and available on the school website at least six times per year.
  • The Georgia Department of Education parent resources will be linked to the school website.
  • Parents will be provided with a Monthly Tips newsletter.
  • Teachers/Grade levels send home a weekly newsletter with information on topics being studied, homework, tests, and upcoming events.
  • Through the school website parents will be able to view individual teacher webpages containing information on tests, projects, and upcoming events.
  • Teachers will update iParent at least one time per week.
  • Family Literacy Night will be held in conjunction with the book fair.
