2008 season updates
May 20 Gordon Lee's season ended with a doubleheader loss to Brookstone in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. The Trojans dropped the first game 4-2 before falling in the second 15-3. Gordon Lee finished the year with a record of 20-11.
May 15 The Trojans defeated Aquinas 8-6 in the deciding game of their second-round state playoff series. Paden Harris was the winning pitcher and Zack DeBord got the save. Tres Scoggins and Jacob Groce had two hits each, while Harris, Brandon Daggett, and Taylor Eberhardt had two RBIs apiece.
May 14 Gordon Lee split the first two games of its second-round state playoff series with Aquinas. The Trojans dropped game one 9-3 but bounced back to win the second game 11-6.
May 9 The Trojans won a pair of slugfests, defeating Lakeview Academy 14-13 in eight innings in game one and then scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh for an 18-17 win in the second game to sweep their first-round state playoff series. Gordon Lee trailed 11-2 in the first game and 7-1 in the nightcap before rallying. GLHS scored 26 of its 32 runs in the series with two outs, including the final two, which were driven in by a two-out, two-strike hit by Taylor Pace. Pace, Taylor Eberhardt, and Josh Weller all had three hits in the series finale, while Tres Scoggins and Brandon Daggett had two hits each in the opener.
May 2 Gordon Lee fell to Bowdon 8-4. The loss locks the Trojans into a third-place finish in the region.
Apr 29 The Trojans lost to Bremen 11-1. Zack DeBord was 2-for-3 for Gordon Lee.
Apr 25 Gordon Lee swept a doubleheader from Mt. Zion, winning 13-6 and 11-5. Zack DeBord was 6-for-7 with four home runs and eight RBIs in the twinbill. Dalton Ruby added a three-run homer for the Trojans in the first game while Jacob Groce was 4-for-5. In game two Tres Scoggins, Paden Harris, Brandon Daggett, and Taylor Eberhardt had two hits each.
Apr 22 The Trojans scored 11 times in the bottom of the first and went on to defeat Excel Christian 16-3. Paden Harris had a home run and a double for GLHS. Zack DeBord also had two hits. Alan Tahler was the winning pitcher.
Apr 18 Gordon Lee defeated Trion 9-1. Zack DeBord was 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, and four RBIs while pitching a complete-game five-hitter and striking out 11 Bulldogs. Paden Harris and Tres Scoggins had two hits each in the win.
Apr 17 The Trojans scored in the bottom of the seventh to take a 13-12 win over CSAS. Taylor Eberhardt was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, including the game-winner. Tres Scoggins had a double and a three-run homer for GLHS. Josh Weller, Zack DeBord, and Dalton Ruby also had two hits each.
Apr 15 Gordon Lee lost to Baylor 10-0.
Apr 10 Bremen scored three times in the seventh inning to defeat Gordon Lee 5-3. Brad Culbreth had two hits and drove in all the Trojans' runs with a three-run homer. Zack DeBord fanned six Blue Devils and allowed only two earned runs but took the loss.
Apr 8 The Trojans saw a 5-0 lead slip away and lost to Murray County 8-7 in nine innings.
Apr 1 Gordon Lee and LaFayette played to a five-inning 4-4 tie when the game was stopped because of lightning and rain.
Mar 28 The Trojans blasted Excel Christian 15-0. Zack DeBord led the offense with three hits, including a home run, and three runs scored. Dalton Ruby and Robbie Willett combined on a four-inning no-hitter for GLHS.
Mar 25 Gordon Lee run-ruled Trion 12-2. Brandon Daggett led the Trojans with two hits and five RBIs. Jacob Groce was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Josh Weller also scored three times. Zack DeBord allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out eight in six innings to get the win.
Mar 24 The Trojans committed five errors and saw Southeast Whitfield score nine unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 15-5 loss to the Raiders.
Mar 22 Gordon Lee won the championship of the Yellow Jacket Classic, defeating Rockwood 14-7 in the finals. Zack DeBord had three hits while Tres Scoggins had two hits, including a homer, and four RBIs. Dalton Ruby picked up the win in relief. Jacob Groce, DeBord, Scoggins, and Ruby were named to the All-Tournament team. DeBord was chosen as tournament MVP.
Mar 21 The Trojans shut out Trousdale County 10-0 in their final pool-play game of the Yellow Jacket Classic. Zack DeBord had three hits, three RBIs, and scored three runs. Dalton Ruby added two hits and three RBIs while Alan Tahler picked up the win.
Mar 20 Gordon Lee won its first two games in the Yellow Jacket Classic. The Trojans blasted Columbia Academy 16-3 in game one, powered by a two-run home run by Jacob Groce, a three-run shot by Tres Scoggins, and a grand slam by Zack DeBord. Scoggins allowed only two hits and struck out eight to get the win. In the second game GLHS beat Middle Tennessee Christian 9-1. DeBord was 3-for-3 while Groce and Brad Culbreth had two hits each. Josh Weller was the winning pitcher.
Mar 18 The Trojans scored eight times in the second inning and went on to defeat Grace Baptist Academy 11-1 in five innings. Brad Culbreth led GLHS with two hits and three RBIs. Paden Harris got the win, pitching four innings and striking out six.
Mar 17 Gordon Lee defeated Murray County 8-1. Zack DeBord allowed only three hits while striking out 10 in six innings on the mound, and picked up two hits, including a home run, at the plate. Paden Harris and Tres Scoggins also had two hits for the Trojans.
Mar 11 The Trojans tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning, then Tres Scoggins blasted a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to give Gordon Lee a 7-6 victory over Chattanooga Christian. Alan Tahler got the win in relief. Paden Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Mar 10 Gordon Lee scored eight runs in the final three innings, including one in the top of the seventh, to rally for a 9-8 win over Boyd-Buchanan. Josh Weller and Taylor Eberhardt had two hits each. Paden Harris was the winning pitcher.
Mar 6 The Trojans picked up their first win of the season, defeating Southeast Whitfield 10-3. Gordon Lee scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to break open a close game. Jacob Groce, Dalton Ruby, and Taylor Pace had two hits each. Tres Scoggins allowed five hits and one walk while striking out seven in the complete-game win.
Mar 1 Gordon Lee lost its season opener, falling 13-6 to Ridgeland. Zack DeBord led the Trojans' attack with three hits while Tres Scoggins was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Brandon Daggett drove in two runs.
