GLHS baseball team

The GLHS baseball team defeated Bremen 11-1 on May 4 to clinch its first Region 6-A championship since 1991. The Trojans fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but came back to finish off the Blue Devils in five innings.

Gordon Lee advanced to the state playoffs as the #1 team from Region 6, and defeated St. Francis, the #4 team from Region 5, in the first round. The Trojans dropped the first game of the best-of-three series, but rebounded to take the next two games.

GLHS swept Jefferson, the #2 team from Region 8, in the second round, and then beat Pacelli, the Region 2 champion, in round three. The Trojans lost to top-ranked Eagle's Landing Christian in the state semifinals.


2006 season updates

May 29 — Gordon Lee's season ended with a doubleheader loss to top-ranked Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in the semifinal round of the state playoffs. The Chargers scored four times in the last two innings to take a 5-1 win in game one, then broke open a 2-2 game with six runs in the second inning and four more in the third on the way to an 18-8 victory in the nightcap. The Trojans' trip to the semifinals was their first since 1991. GLHS finished the season with a record of 23-13.

May 24 — The Trojans broke open a one-run game with five two-out runs in the top of the seventh and defeated Pacelli 10-4 in the deciding game of the third-round state playoff series. A Derek Duran RBI single and a three-run home run by Tyler Beesley were Gordon Lee's only hits of the inning. Ryan Ellis, who allowed only six hits and struck out seven, finished the game by striking out the last five Viking batters.

May 23 — Gordon Lee scored six runs after two were out in the seventh inning to take a 8-7 win over Pacelli in game one of the third-round state playoff series. After trimming the deficit to 7-3, Derek Duran blasted a three-run home run to cut the margin to one. The Trojans then loaded the bases before Jake Sharrock ended the game with a two-run single. In game two, GLHS managed only two hits while committing eight errors in a 10-0 loss.

May 18 — The Trojans beat Jefferson 14-4 to sweep their second-round playoff series in two games. Zach DeBord had two hits, including a three-run home run. Jake Sharrock, Ryan Ellis, and Daniel White also had two hits for Gordon Lee.

May 17Daniel White hit a walk-off, three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Gordon Lee a 6-5 win over Jefferson. The Dragons had taken the lead with two unearned runs in the top of the inning. Ryan Ellis went the distance for the Trojans, allowing no earned runs and striking out 13.

May 13 — The Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-5 win over St. Francis and advance to the second round of the state playoffs. Tyler Beesley picked up his second victory of the series, and was 6-for-8 at the plate during the three games.

May 12 — Gordon Lee bounced back from a game one loss to beat St. Francis 14-3 in game two and even the first-round playoff series. The Trojans pounded out 17 hits, including three home runs in the victory. In the first game, the Knights scored three unearned runs after having two outs and nobody on base in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 win.

May 4 — The Trojans spotted Bremen a 1-0, first-inning lead, but came back for an 11-1, five-inning victory, clinching Gordon Lee's first Region 6-A championship in 15 years. Ryan Ellis got the win, allowing only two hits after the first inning and striking out eight. Paden Harris had a three-run homer in the second to give GLHS the lead for good. Will Brooks chipped in with two doubles and a walk in three trips to the plate. Ellis's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth ended the game and gave Gordon Lee its first boys' championship in any sport since 2002.

May 2 — Gordon Lee pushed across five first-inning runs and then scored 11 times in the second in a 16-0, three-inning win over Excel Christian. Pitchers Tyler Beesley and Dane Anderson retired all nine Eagles' batters they faced, six by strikeout.

April 28Ryan Ellis allowed only three hits and struck out 10 in the Trojans' 2-1 win over Bowdon. Daniel White and Patrick Mattos homered to provide the offense.

April 25 — Gordon Lee lost to Temple 9-8 in 11 innings. The Trojans rallied from an 8-2 second-inning deficit to tie the game in the fourth, but missed numerous opportunities to push across additional runs. Ryan Ellis was 3-for-6, including a double and two home runs, with five RBIs for GLHS.

April 21 — The Trojans beat Trion 7-0 as Jake Sharrock, Tyler Beesley, and Ryan Ellis combined on the shutout. Daniel White was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Ellis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Patrick Mattos homered for Gordon Lee.

April 14 — Gordon Lee moved to 4-1 in region play with a 14-2 five-inning win over Excel Christian. Daniel White was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Patrick Mattos was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Ryan Ellis had three RBIs for the Trojans. Dane Anderson was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in three innings.

April 7 — The Trojans defeated Temple 10-5 in a region contest. GLHS took the lead with four runs in the second, and added two-run homers from Tyler Beesley in the fifth and Ryan Ellis in the sixth after the Tigers had narrowed the lead to a single run. Beesley, Jake Sharrock, Patrick Mattos, and Derek Duran had two hits each. Ellis struck out 12 in picking up the win.

April 4 — Gordon Lee improved to 2-1 in region play with a 12-4 win over Trion. Jake Sharrock was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Daniel White was 3-for-4, and Travis Burns was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Patrick Mattos got the win in relief. Ryan Ellis recorded a save, striking out nine in three innings.

April 3 — The Trojans lost to Ridgeland 15-4. Will Brooks was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for Gordon Lee.

April 1 — Gordon Lee scored two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to get past Bowdon 8-7. Dane Anderson got the win in relief. Daniel White and Jake Sharrock homered for the Trojans, and Patrick Mattos had two doubles among three hits.

March 31 — The Trojans lost to Notre Dame 4-0.

March 28 — Bremen scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to hand the Trojans a 7-6 loss in their region opener. Ryan Ellis homered twice and Jake Sharrock was 3-for-3 to lead the Gordon Lee offense.

March 25 — Gordon Lee went 2-1 for the day in the Ooltewah Invitational. The Trojans defeated Karns 6-1 behind a complete-game effort from Dane Anderson. Gordon Lee then pounded East Ridge 14-4 as Patrick Mattos picked up the win. In the championship game GLHS lost to Ooltewah 5-1, despite an outstanding pitching effort from Tyler Beesley.

March 22 — The Trojans picked up two wins in the Ooltewah Invitational. In the first game, Gordon Lee defeated Lookout Valley 15-10. Zach DeBord had three hits, including a double and a home run. Jake Sharrock, Daniel White, Ryan Ellis, and Will Brooks also added three hits each. The Trojans beat Cleveland 6-1 in game two. Ellis was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.

March 17 — Gordon Lee scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-0 win over Chattanooga Christian. Patrick Mattos had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, and Tyler Beesley was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Zach DeBord also homered for the Trojans. Ryan Ellis got the win, striking out 10 while only walking one in the five-inning game.

March 16 — The Trojans dropped an 8-4 decision to Dalton. Daniel White was 2-for-4 with a double.

March 14 — Gordon Lee lost to Ridgeland 4-0.

March 11 — The Trojans swept a pair of games, defeating East Hall 10-0 and Washington County 17-6. Ryan Ellis got the shutout in the first game, going all six innings and striking out 10. Travis Burns and Jake Sharrock both homered in each game, and Zach DeBord added a home run in the second game.

March 10 — Gordon Lee beat Glascock County 13-1 in five innings. Travis Burns had two doubles, a home run, and three RBIs. Patrick Mattos was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Will Brooks was the winning pitcher, striking out five.

March 9 — The Trojans lost to Mount Paran 7-3. Patrick Mattos had a double, a triple and two RBIs. Paden Harris and Travis Burns also had two hits for Gordon Lee.

March 4 — Gordon Lee gave up nine unearned runs and lost to fourth-ranked Eagle's Landing Christian Academy 10-6. Daniel White was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Trojans.

February 28 — The Trojans opened their season win a 5-4, eight-inning win over Dalton. Tyler Beesley drove home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Dane Anderson was the winning pitcher, throwing five innings of one-hit relief. Gordon Lee had tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Paden Harris drew a bases-loaded walk. Jake Sharrock homered for the Trojans' first run.
