2008 season updates

Nov 14 Gordon Lee's season ended with a 14-12 loss to Region 5-A champion Whitefield Academy in the first round of the state playoffs. The Trojan defense held the Wolfpack scoreless in the second half but the offense couldn't covert its own scoring opportunities into points. Jacob Groce led the GLHS attack with 98 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Nov 7 The Trojans clinched a spot in the state playoffs with a 49-14 win over Mt. Zion. Jacob Groce rushed for 221 yards and four touchdowns and added another TD on a pass reception. Brad Culbreth was 6-for-9 through the air for 89 yards and two TDs. Klay Durham and Jordan Afman also scored touchdowns for Gordon Lee. Leading the defense were Austin Goodlet with 15 tackles and Caleb Guthrie with 12 tackles. Ethan White and Tyler Armstrong each had a sack while Aubrey McKinley recovered a fumble and Afman intercepted a pass.

Oct 31 Gordon Lee mounted a fourth-quarter rally but lost to Darlington 24-19. Brad Culbreth was 17-for-29 passing for 204 yards and two TDs while Jordan Afman had 12 receptions for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Goodlet led the Trojan defense with 13 tackles.

Oct 24 The Trojans fell to Bremen 41-0. Jacob Groce rushed for 57 yards and Josh Weller added 50 yards on the ground. The GLHS defense was led by Austin Goodlet with 12 tackles and Caleb Guthrie with 9 stops.

Oct 17 Gordon Lee improved its record to 2-1 in region play with a 40-14 win over Walker. Jordan Afman and Josh Weller each scored two touchdowns while Jacob Groce ran for 178 yards and one TD. Austin Goodlet also scored for the Trojans and led the team on defense with 15 tackles and one sack. Ethan White had 11 tackles and one fumble recovery, Caleb Guthrie had 10 tackles, and Weller added 10 tackles, one interception, and one sack.

Oct 10 The Trojans lost to Bowdon 23-12. Gordon Lee's defense held the Red Devils to just 200 yards of total offense but Bowdon scored a defensive touchdown and added another TD on a long run after a fumble recovery to clinch the win.

Oct 3 Gordon Lee opened its region schedule with a 20-13 win over Trion. Jacob Groce ran for 146 yards and three TDs, and kept the Bulldogs out of the end zone with a touchdown-saving tackle at the end of the first quarter. Brad Culbreth added 87 yards rushing to the Trojan attack. Austin Goodlet had 16 tackles for GLHS, while Aubrey McKinley, Caleb Guthrie, and Jordan Afman had 10 tackles each. Daniel Staub recorded nine tackles and two sacks.

Sep 26 Fyffe broke open a first-half defensive struggle with 14 third-quarter points and defeated the Trojans 27-14. Jacob Groce scored both touchdowns for Gordon Lee. Austin Goodlet led the GLHS defense with 17 tackles.

Sep 12 Gordon Lee jumped to a 34-0 lead at halftime on its way to a 40-7 win over Heritage. Jacob Groce ran for 126 yards on only 11 carries and scored four touchdowns. Jordan Afman and Taylor Pace also scored for the Trojans. Josh Weller threw for 123 yards and two TDs. Pace had 12 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense, while Austin Goodlet had 10 tackles for the Trojans.

Sep 5 Jacob Groce scored on a 13-yard run with 2:18 remaining to cap a 99-yard drive and give the Trojans a 14-6 win over LFO. Groce also had an 11-yard TD to go with 148 yards rushing. Jordan Afman caught seven passes for 118 yards and a two-point conversion. Leading the GLHS defense were Taylor Pace with 13 tackles and Austin Goodlet with 12 tackles. Afman had 11 tackles and one interception.

Aug 29 A fourth-quarter rally came up short as Gordon Lee lost to Ridgeland 10-6 in its season opener. Taylor Pace led a stout Trojan defense with nine tackles and one caused fumble. Daniel Staub added seven stops. Jacob Groce scored the only TD for GLHS on a five-yard run.
