2007-2008 season updates
Mar 1 Gordon Lee lost to Southwest Atlanta Christian 72-56 in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Kori Penland scored 27 points in her final game for GLHS. The Lady Trojans finished with a record of 24-6, tying the school record for most wins in a season.
Feb 27 The Lady Trojans advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament for the first time since 1992 with a 64-41 win over Aquinas. Kori Penland scored 15 points, dished out 10 assists, and had five steals for Gordon Lee. Alli O'Neal added 10 points.
Feb 23 Gordon Lee defeated Lakeview Academy 44-42 in the first round of the state tournament. Kori Penland led GLHS with 17 points and seven assists. Jordan O'Neal and Shauna Gallahar scored eight each. O'Neal was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game, including two that gave the Lady Trojans a five-point lead with five seconds to play.
Feb 16 The Lady Trojans beat Trion 51-48 to win their second straight Region 6-A championship. Kori Penland led GLHS with 22 points. Holli Brooks had nine points and nine rebounds while Brittny Morgan also scored nine.
Feb 14 Gordon Lee advanced to the Region 6-A championship game for the sixth consecutive year by defeating Bremen 65-50. Kori Penland scored 20 of her game-high 25 points in the first half. Holli Brooks added 10 for the Lady Trojans.
Feb 9 The Lady Trojans knocked off Ringgold 51-43 to finish their regular season with a record of 20-5. Kori Penland led GLHS with 28 points.
Feb 8 Gordon Lee beat Boyd-Buchanan 73-60 on Senior Night. The Lady Trojans got 39 points from senior Kori Penland while fellow seniors Brittny Morgan added eight points and Jordan O'Neal finished with six. The JV team beat the Lady Bucs 55-44 to end its season with a record of 11-1.
Feb 5 The Lady Trojans defeated Excel Christian 65-18 to finish their region schedule in a tie for first place with a 9-1 record. Jordan Bohannon led GLHS with 14 points and Lesslie Bohannon added 11.
Feb 2 Gordon Lee beat Dade County 53-34. Kori Penland had a game-high 25 points for GLHS.
Feb 1 The Lady Trojans got a big 56-44 win at Bremen to stay tied for the top spot in Region 6-A. Kori Penland scored 28 points to lead GLHS.
Jan 29 Gordon Lee held a 10-point lead at halftime but went scoreless in the third quarter as Trion rallied for a 54-47 win. Kori Penland had 24 points and 8 rebounds for GLHS while Jordan Bohannon had 8 points and 16 rebounds. The JV team defeated Trion 45-23.
Jan 25 The Lady Trojans jumped to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 67-21 win over Mt. Zion. Brittny Morgan led Gordon Lee with 17 points, Kori Penland had 16, and Holli Brooks added 12.
Jan 22 Gordon Lee won its sixth straight region game, beating Excel Christian 81-19. Kori Penland led GLHS with 25 points. Holli Brooks added 13.
Jan 18 The Lady Trojans led 27-0 after one quarter and stretched the margin to 37-0 before cruising to a 76-39 win over Bowdon. Kori Penland had 29 points and 10 assists, Holli Brooks scored 12, and Brittny Morgan added 11 for Gordon Lee. Jordan Bohannon pulled down 14 rebounds.
Jan 15 Gordon Lee beat Trion 70-47 to take over sole possession of first place in Region 6-A. Kori Penland had 28 points and 10 assists for GLHS. Jordan O'Neal and Jensen O'Neal each contributed eight points to the attack, which featured scoring from 11 different Lady Trojans. The JV team won its sixth game in a row, defeating the Lady Dogs 42-28.
Jan 11 The Lady Trojans improved to 3-0 in region play with a 55-45 win over Bremen. Kori Penland scored 14 points, Holli Brooks had 12, and Jensen O'Neal added 10 for Gordon Lee. The JV team beat North Paulding.
Jan 8 Gordon Lee defeated Mt. Zion 61-33. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 20 points. Kori Penland scored 16.
Jan 4 The Lady Trojans rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to take a 71-57 win over Bowdon in their region opener. Kori Penland led GLHS with 41 points, and passed the 2,000-point plateau for her career.
Dec 29 Gordon Lee lost to Towns County 62-51 in third-place game of the Battle of the States tournament. The Lady Trojans were led by Jordan O'Neal with 14 points and Holli Brooks with 11.
Dec 28 The Lady Trojans led by one at halftime but saw Union County break away after intermission for a 64-47 win in the semifinals of the Battle of the States tournament. Kori Penland scored 23 points for Gordon Lee.
Dec 27 Gordon Lee jumped to a 41-0 lead after one quarter and went on to thrash Weaver 73-3 in the first round of the Battle of the States tournament. Kori Penland led GLHS with 19 points. Holli Brooks added 12.
Dec 18 The Lady Trojans blitzed LaFayette in the second half, leading by as many as 30 points, before finishing with a 67-46 win. Kori Penland scored a game-high 24 points while Alli O'Neal had 10 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Bohannon added nine rebounds and blocked three shots. The JV team also beat the Lady Ramblers.
Dec 15 Gordon Lee ran past Ringgold 70-44. Kori Penland scored 20 points and handed out 10 assists to lead the Lady Trojans while Anna Quinn and Alli O'Neal had 10 points each. The JV team beat the Lady Tigers 43-31.
Dec 8 The Lady Trojans led by one at halftime then used a 26-13 third quarter to power a 72-63 win over Boyd-Buchanan. Kori Penland hit nine three-pointers as part of a career-high 43-point performance to lead GLHS. Shauna Gallahar scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds for Gordon Lee. The JV team also beat the Lady Bucs, winning 49-43.
Dec 7 Kori Penland scored 19 points, surpassing the previous GLHS career-scoring mark of 1,850 points, as Gordon Lee defeated Dade County 49-31. Shauna Gallahar added 8 points to the Lady Trojans' attack. The JV team beat the Lady Wolverines 42-35.
Dec 4 The Lady Trojans fell to LaFayette 61-58. Kori Penland had 26 points to lead GLHS while Jordan Bohannon and Holli Brooks scored eight points each. The Lady Ramblers were 23-of-40 from the free throw line while Gordon Lee was just 11-of-18. The JV team also lost, falling 49-42.
Nov 27 Gordon Lee dug out of a big first-half hole to tie the score with 2:16 to play, but Ridgeland scored the final six points of the game to hand the Lady Trojans their first loss of the season, 60-54. Brittny Morgan led GLHS with 13 points, Kori Penland scored 12 and dished out 9 assists, and Holli Brooks added 11 points to the attack. The JV team won its first game of the year, defeating the Lady Panthers 41-27.
Nov 24 The Lady Trojans knocked off Chattooga County 67-41 to win their third game in the Dade Tipoff Classic. Kori Penland led all scorers with 23 points. Holli Brooks added 10 for GLHS while Jordan Bohannon finished with 9.
Nov 23 Gordon Lee moved to 2-0 on the season with a 79-61 win over Ider. Kori Penland led a balanced attack with 15 points and 9 assists. Alli O'Neal scored 11, Shauna Gallahar had 10, and Jensen O'Neal added 9 points for GLHS.
Nov 21 The Lady Trojans rallied from an early double-digit deficit to defeat Northwest Whitfield 56-52 in the Dade Tipoff Classic. Kori Penland led GLHS with 28 points.
