Lady Trojans win third straight region title
The GLHS Lady Trojan basketball team defeated Bremen 74-41 in the finals of the Region 6-A tournament to capture the team's third consecutive region championship and fifth in seven years. Gordon Lee jumped out early, leading 14-2 after one quarter and 42-22 at the half.
The Lady Trojans' 12-0 regular-season record in region games had given them the tournament's top seed and a bye to the semifinals where they defeated Darlington to advance to the championship game.
In the awards ceremony following the championship game it was announced that GLHS sophomore Holli Brooks was selected by region coaches as the Region 6-A Girls' Player of the Year. Fellow sophomores Lesslie Bohannon and Alli O'Neal were chosen to the All-Region team. Coach Lester Galyon was chosen by his colleagues as region Coach of the Year.
2008-2009 season updates
Mar 3 Gordon Lee built a 10-point second-quarter lead but saw Social Circle come back to take a 63-49 win in the second round of the state tournament. Holli Brooks had 12 points to lead GLHS while Lesslie Bohannon added 10. The Lady Trojans ended the season with a record of 25-4.
Feb 27 The Lady Trojans rallied from an early 11-point deficit to beat Holy Innocents' 59-57 in the first round of the state tournament. Lesslie Bohannon scored a game-high 18 points for Gordon Lee. Holli Brooks added 14 points while Jordan Bohannon had 10. The victory was the Lady Trojans' school-record 25th win of the season.
Feb 21 Gordon Lee won its third straight Region 6-A championship by blistering Bremen 74-41 in the tournament finals. Lesslie Bohannon had 14 points for GLHS, while Alli O'Neal, Sam Taylor, and Anna Quinn tallied 10 points each in a balanced attack that saw 11 Lady Trojans score.
Feb 20 The Lady Trojans advanced to their seventh consecutive Region 6-A tournament final by defeating Darlington 50-41. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 14 points. Jordan Bohannon added nine.
Feb 13 Gordon Lee finished the regular season with a 55-42 win over Darlington, giving the Lady Trojans a perfect 12-0 record in region games. Holli Brooks had 15 points for GLHS while Lesslie Bohannon added 14 and Alli O'Neal scored eight.
Feb 10 The Lady Trojans wrapped up the top seed in the upcoming region tournament by defeating Trion 61-59. Holli Brooks led all scorers with 20 points. Alli O'Neal had 14 points while Brooks and Shauna Gallahar each pulled down eight rebounds. The JV team beat the Lady Dogs 50-32.
Feb 6 Gordon Lee used a 25-1 first-half run to cruise by Bowdon 58-37. Holli Brooks had 12 points and Alli O'Neal scored 10 for GLHS.
Jan 31 The Lady Trojans dropped a tough 61-60 decision to LFO. Alli O'Neal led a balanced GLHS attack with 13 points. The JV team beat the Lady Warriors 67-39.
Jan 30 Gordon Lee rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 44-40 win over Mt. Zion. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 20 points. Shauna Gallahar added 10.
Jan 27 The Lady Trojans pounded Excel Christian 75-28. Lesslie Bohannon led GLHS with 22 points. Jordan Bohannon added 10.
Jan 24 Gordon Lee beat Bowdon 56-39 as Holli Brooks had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jill Johnson scored eight points while Jordan Bohannon grabbed 13 rebounds. The JV team's record dropped to 8-1 as it lost to Northwest Whitfield 59-56 when the Lady Bruins hit a 35-foot shot at the buzzer.
Jan 23 The Lady Trojans topped Bremen 57-44. GLHS got 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals from Alli O'Neal in the win. Lesslie Bohannon added nine points.
Jan 20 Gordon Lee defeated Darlington 60-39. GLHS got 24 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists from Holli Brooks.
Jan 16 The Lady Trojans took over the top spot in Region 6-A with a 57-53 win over Trion. Lesslie Bohannon led GLHS with 15 points. Alli O'Neal had 12 points and eight rebounds for Gordon Lee while Holli Brooks scored 10 points. Jordan Bohannon had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 points, including a pair of free throws with six seconds to play to seal the win. The JV team defeated the Lady Dogs 55-25.
Jan 13 Gordon Lee outscored Boyd-Buchanan 45-24 in the first and third quarters on its way to a 77-56 win over the Lady Bucs. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 18 points. Anna Quinn added 14. The JV team ripped BBS 50-14.
Jan 10 The Lady Trojans beat Ringgold 50-39. Holli Brooks had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Alli O'Neal scored nine points while Jordan Bohannon pulled down 12 rebounds. The JV team defeated the Lady Tigers 50-35.
Jan 9 Gordon Lee won its third Region 6-A game, defeating Mt. Zion 59-41. Holli Brooks had 23 points to lead GLHS. Lesslie Bohannon added 11.
Jan 6 The Lady Trojans blitzed Excel Christian 55-15 in the first half as they crushed the Lady Eagles 87-24. Holli Brooks was the game's high scorer with 20 points. Alli O'Neal added 15, Kendall Johnson finished with 11, and Anna Quinn had nine.
Dec 29 Gordon Lee wrapped up play in the Battle of the States tournament with a 56-42 win over Hokes Bluff. Jordan Bohannon had 17 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Lady Trojans while Holli Brooks added 15 points. Brooks was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Dec 27 The Lady Trojans built a 23-13 lead after one quarter, and led by as many as 25 in the fourth quarter on their way to a 78-60 win over Pendleton on the second day of the Battle of the States tournament. Holli Brooks had 28 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals for Gordon Lee.
Dec 26 Gordon Lee lost to Polk County 72-65 in the opening game of the Battle of the States tournament. GLHS was led by Anna Quinn with 15 points and Lesslie Bohannon with 13.
Dec 19 The Lady Trojans beat Ringgold 58-55 behind a career-high 26 points from Holli Brooks. Anna Quinn added nine points for GLHS.
Dec 16 Gordon Lee got back in the win column with a 68-48 victory over Bremen in its region opener. Holli Brooks led a balanced attack for the Lady Trojans with 16 points. Lesslie Bohannon and Jensen O'Neal scored 11 points each while Alli O'Neal added 10.
Dec 9 The Lady Trojans lost their first game of the season, falling to LFO 50-43. Holli Brooks scored 15 points to lead GLHS.
Dec 2 Gordon Lee improved its record to 5-0 with a 48-43 win over Ridgeland. Holli Brooks scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead GLHS. The JV team beat the Lady Panthers 51-23.
Nov 29 The Lady Trojans knocked off Marion County 56-47. GLHS had 12 players score in a balanced attack, led by eight points from Lesslie Bohannon. Jordan Bohannon, Alli O'Neal, and Kelsie Bickett each scored seven.
Nov 28 Gordon Lee defeated LFO 59-54. Lesslie Bohannon led GLHS with 16 points while Holli Brooks scored 13 and Alli O'Neal had 10. Jordan Bohannon pulled down 14 rebounds. The Lady Trojans were 19-for-19 from the free throw line in the win.
Nov 26 Lesslie Bohannon hit a 15-foot jumper as time expired to give the Lady Trojans a 54-53 victory over Ider. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 14 points. Bohannon added 10.
Nov 20 Gordon Lee opened its season with a 54-31 win over Ridgeland. The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Panthers 36-17 in the second half to put the game away. Holli Brooks led GLHS with 12 points. Shauna Gallahar and Lesslie Bohannon added eight each. The JV team beat Ridgeland 42-19.
