Softball team wins second straight State Championship
The Gordon Lee softball team won its second consecutive Class A state championship by defeating Wesleyan 6-1 on Saturday, October 29. The Lady Trojans knocked off Bryan County and Mount Pisgah Christian in their first two Elite Eight games before beating Wesleyan in the winner's bracket finals and again in the championship game, outscoring their opponents 33-4 along the way. GLHS finished the season with a record of 37-1.
The state championship was the third for Gordon Lee. In addition to last year's title, the Lady Trojans also won it all in 2004.

Oct 29 The Lady Trojans won their second consecutive state championship with a 6-1 victory over Wesleyan. Brenna Nation allowed no earned runs while striking out seven, including the final two batters of the game, and helped herself at the plate with a two-run first-inning home run. Sam Taylor had three hits while Kalei Kimbrell added a pair of hits. Taylor, Kendall Johnson, Ansley Underwood, and Jordyn Hamill all had RBIs.
Oct 28 Gordon Lee blanked Wesleyan 9-0 to advance to the Class A state championship game for the sixth straight year. Kendall Johnson was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI for the Lady Trojans. Courtney Towns and Sam Taylor each had two hits while Jordyn Hamill drove in two runs. Brenna Nation fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in the shutout.
Oct 27 The Lady Trojans held on to defeat Bryan County 4-3 in their Class A Elite Eight opening game. Kelsie Bickett was 2-for-3 with an RBI for GLHS while Sam Taylor added a solo home run to the attack. Gordon Lee then blasted Mount Paran Christian 14-0 in the second round to move into the tournament's winners' bracket finals. Kalei Kimbrell led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Brenna Nation was the winning pitcher in both games.
Oct 20 Gordon Lee advanced to the Class A Elite Eight tournament by defeating Athens Christian 8-0 and 13-0. Kendall Johnson and Courtney Towns had back-to-back home runs in a five-run first inning of game one. Towns and Sam Taylor were each 2-for-2, while both Taylor and Johnson drove in two runs. Brenna Nation struck out five and allowed only one hit in the five-inning win. In the second game Kelsie Bickett and Jordyn Hamill each went 3-for-3. Bickett drove in three runs while Hamill had two RBIs. Taylor had two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. Kalei Kimbrell struck out four in the four-inning shutout.
Oct 12 The Lady Trojans swept their first-round state tournament series with Providence Christian, winning 13-0 and 10-1. Courtney Towns had a three-run home run and a bases-loaded triple in Gordon Lee's 10-run third inning in the opener. Brenna Nation allowed only one hit in the win. Sam Taylor had three hits in game two while Nation, Kelsie Bickett, and Jordyn Hamill each drove in a pair of runs. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher.
Sep 29 Gordon Lee won its ninth consecutive Region 6-A championship by shutting out Bowdon 8-0. Courtney Towns hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to get the GLHS scoring started. Towns later added a double in a two-hit night. Sam Taylor, Brenna Nation, and Kalei Kimbrell also had two hits each while Nation drove in two runs. Nation was the winning pitcher, firing a two-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Sep 28 The Lady Trojans got by Bowdon 3-1 to advance to the championship game of the Region 6-A tournament. Lexis Robertson and Kendall Johnson were both 2-for-3 with a double. Robertson had two RBIs while Johnson drove in one run. Brenna Nation allowed four hits and struck out 10 in picking up the win.
Sep 27 Gordon Lee beat Bremen 9-0 in the second round of the Region 6-A tournament. Sam Taylor was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs while Kalei Kimbrell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jordyn Hamill also drove in two runs. Brenna Nation allowed only two hits and struck out eight in the five-inning game.
Sep 26 The Lady Trojans scored seven times in the first inning and eight times in the third to blast Excel Christian 15-0 in the first round of the Region 6-A tournament. Lexis Robertson drove in three runs while Kendall Johnson and Kalei Kimbrell had two RBIs each. Sam Taylor was 2-for-2 with a triple and one RBI. Kimbrell threw three perfect innings, striking out five, to get the win.
Sep 21 Gordon Lee defeated North Cobb Christian 14-2. Kendall Johnson and Courtney Towns each went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Ashley McDonald and Tiffany Holland had two hits each while Sam Taylor drove in three runs. Kalei Kimbrell and Megan Wolinsky combined for the win.
Sep 20 The Lady Trojans beat Darlington 18-0. Courtney Towns had a home run and drove in three runs while Brenna Nation was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Jordyn Hamill and Kendall Johnson also had two hits. Nation and Megan Wolinsky combined on the shutout.
Sep 19 The JV team beat LFO 2-1. Ashley McDonald was 3-for-3 while Ansley Underwood had an RBI and scored the winning run. Megan Wolinsky and Tristen Young combined for the win.
Sep 17 Gordon Lee defeated LaFayette 8-0, Ringgold 5-4, and St. Pius X 8-0 in the SCORE International Invitational. For the day, Sam Taylor was 7-for-11 with two triples, Kendall Johnson was 6-for-11 with a home run, a triple, and five RBIs, and Brenna Nation was 5-for-9 with a triple and four RBIs. Nation was 2-0 in the circle with 13 strikeouts in 12 innings of work. Kalei Kimbrell got the other win, striking out seven in five innings.
Sep 16 The Lady Trojans won a pair of games in the SCORE International Invitational. GLHS blanked Ridgeland 12-0 and followed up with an 8-0 shutout of Blessed Trinity. Sam Taylor, Jordyn Hamill, and Brenna Nation had two hits each against Ridgeland. Courtney Towns blasted a two-run homer. Against Blessed Trinity, Kendall Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Towns was 3-for-3. Kalei Kimbrell got the win in the first game while Nation was the winning pitcher in the nightcap.
Sep 15 Gordon Lee defeated Union (Okla.) 4-3 in eight innings. Brenna Nation went the distance in the circle and drove in the game-winning run in the top of the eighth. Lexis Robertson, Tiffany Holland, and Kalei Kimbrell also had RBIs for GLHS.

Sep 13 The Lady Trojans improved their region record to 5-0 with an 8-0 blanking of Trion. Sam Taylor was 3-for-3 with two triples, scored twice, and drove in four runs. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits while striking out six.
Sep 10 Gordon Lee won twice in pool play in the Cherokee Invitational, beating Harris County 10-0 in five innings and topping Marist 14-0 in four innings. The Lady Trojans then advanced to the Gold Bracket finals with an 11-inning, 6-4 victory over Northwest Whitfield before falling to Whitewater in the championship game by a score of 5-2.
Sep 9 The Lady Trojans opened play in the Cherokee Invitational with an 8-1 win over Woodland.
Sep 8 Gordon Lee defeated Excel Christian 12-0. Sam Taylor was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Kalei Kimbrell was also 3-for-3 and picked up the win in the circle, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out 10.
Sep 1 The Lady Trojans plated 11 runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second and two in the third to blast Darlington 16-0. Tiffany Holland went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, Sam Taylor was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI, while Kelsie Bickett had two doubles in two at-bats and drove in two. Kalei Kimbrell, Courtney Towns, and Lexis Robertson had two RBIs each. Kimbrell struck out five in the three-inning game.
Aug 29 Gordon Lee knocked off Northwest Whitfield 4-1. Sam Taylor had two hits and drove in a run for the Lady Trojans. Brenna Nation, Lexis Robertson, and Kalei Kimbrell also had RBIs. Nation scattered four hits while striking out nine to pick up the win.
Aug 27 The JV team won the Pepperell Dragon Invitational by winning three times on the tournament's second day. The Lady Trojans shut out Pepperell 10-0 before edging LFO 7-6 and Sequoyah 4-3.
Aug 26 The JV team opened play in the Pepperell Dragon Invitational with a 6-1 win over Central of Carroll County and a 17-0 blanking of Armuchee.
Aug 25 The Lady Trojans scored six runs in the third inning on their way to an 8-0 win over Trion. Brenna Nation and Kalei Kimbrell combined on Gordon Lee's second straight no-hitter, striking out 12 in five innings. Courtney Towns was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs while Lexis Robertson drove in two runs. The JV team won by a score of 7-1.

Aug 23 Gordon Lee scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning on its way to a 14-0 pasting of Excel Christian in the team's region opener. Courtney Towns was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Sam Taylor added a double and drove in two runs. Brenna Nation and Megan Wolinsky each pitched two innings of the four-inning game and combined to allow no hits while striking out 10.
Aug 20 The Lady Trojans finished the LFO Invitational with three more wins. Gordon Lee started the day by defeating Harris County 4-2. GLHS then rallied to slip by Dade County 2-1 and got by Heritage 3-2 in eight innings. Sam Taylor had two hits against Heritage, including the game-winning RBI. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher in the first game and Brenna Nation got the wins in games two and three.
Aug 19 Gordon Lee picked up two wins in the LFO Invitational. GLHS began by shutting out Marist 7-0 then beat Calhoun 7-3. Kendall Johnson and Ashley McDonald each had two hits and an RBI against Marist while Brenna Nation had two hits and three RBIs against Calhoun. Nation was the winning pitcher in the Calhoun game while Kalei Kimbrell got the win in game one.
Aug 18 The Lady Trojans defeated Fannin County 10-0. Brenna Nation, Ashley McDonald, and Tiffany Holland had two hits each while McDonald and Sam Taylor both had two RBIs. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher, striking out six.
Aug 15 Gordon Lee won its opening game of the season by edging Buford 2-1. Courtney Towns had a two-out RBI single in the first inning and the Lady Trojans added another run in the fourth on an error. Brenna Nation scattered six hits and struck out 10 to get the win.
