GLHS softball team

The GLHS softball team won the 2010 Class A state championship and completed the first undefeated season in Georgia High School Association fastpitch history with an 8-1 victory over Providence Christian on Saturday, October 30. The Lady Trojans knocked off Bryan County and Prince Avenue Christian in their first two Elite Eight games before beating Providence in the winner's bracket finals and again in the championship game.

Gordon Lee, who concluded the season with a perfect 38-0 record, outscored its opponents 29-2 in the four games.

The state title was the second for the Lady Trojans and snapped a string of near misses for the team. Following its previous championship in 2004, GLHS had finished third in 2005 and second in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Oct 30 The Lady Trojans broke a 1-1 tie by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning of their 8-1 state championship game victory over Providence Christian. Holli Brooks went 2-for-3 and was one of six GLHS players to drive in a run. Brenna Nation got the win, giving up just three hits while striking out 10, including the final two batters of the game.

Oct 29 Gordon Lee defeated Providence Christian 4-1 to advance to the Class A state championship game for the fifth consecutive year. The Lady Trojans allowed a run in the top of the first inning, but tied the game in the bottom half on a solo home run by Kendall Johnson. Courtney Towns followed a second-inning triple by Lesslie Bohannon with a two-run homer to give GLHS the lead. Johnson drove in the final run with a fifth-inning bunt single. Brenna Nation pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts to get the win.

Oct 28 The Lady Trojans opened the Elite Eight tournament with a 6-0 victory over Bryan County. Brenna Nation fired a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts to get the win. GLHS then advanced to the winner's bracket finals with an 11-0 pasting of Prince Avenue Christian. Nation was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits in four innings of work. Sam Taylor, Kendall Johnson, and Holli Brooks collected five hits each in the two games. Brooks and Taylor both drove in four runs while Johnson scored four times.

Oct 20 Gordon Lee advanced to the GHSA Elite Eight tournament with a pair of wins over Mt. Pisgah. The Lady Trojans scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to take game one 8-7. Brenna Nation drove in the tying and winning runs with a two-out, two-strike, two-RBI single. Nation was also the winning pitcher, striking out 10. In game two, GLHS scored seven runs in the second inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Kendall Johnson, on its way to a 13-3 victory. Johnson added an RBI triple in the sixth. Anna Quinn was 2-for-2 with a home run while Holli Brooks also had two hits. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher.

Oct 13 The Lady Trojans swept their first-round state playoff series, beating Hebron Christian 9-0 and 9-1. In the first game Kelsie Bickett was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Anna Quinn had a solo home run, and Brenna Nation drove in Gordon Lee's final two runs with a walk-off double. Nation got the win, allowing only one hit and striking out eight. Holli Brooks was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in game two, while Lesslie Bohannon had two RBI triples in three at-bats. Lexis Robertson also had two hits. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher.

Oct 1 Gordon Lee captured its eighth straight Region 6-A championship by knocking off Excel Christian 5-1. Kelsie Bickett homered for GLHS and Anna Quinn added a two-run shot. Sam Taylor and Kendall Johnson had two hits each. Brenna Nation pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts to get the win.

Sep 30 The Lady Trojans scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put away Excel Christian 8-0 in the winner's bracket finals of the Region 6-A tournament. Brenna Nation allowed no hits and struck out 11 in the victory. Sam Taylor, Holli Brooks, and Anna Quinn had two hits each for GLHS.

Sep 29 Gordon Lee won twice to advance to the winner's bracket finals of the Region 6-A tournament. The Lady Trojans opened with a 7-0 win over North Cobb Christian. Sam Taylor, Kendall Johnson, Holli Brooks, Kaleigh Witt, and Anna Quinn had two hits each for GLHS. Kalei Kimbrell was the winning pitcher, striking out seven. In the second game Gordon Lee defeated Bowdon 8-0. Lesslie Bohannon was 3-for-3 and Courtney Towns was 2-for-2. Brenna Nation struck out 13 in the five-inning game.

Sep 23 The Lady Trojans beat Excel Christian 8-2. Sam Taylor and Lesslie Bohannon were both 2-for-3 while Holli Brooks and Brenna Nation had two RBIs. Nation was the winning pitcher, striking out 10.

Sep 21 Gordon Lee topped Trion 6-0. Sam Taylor had two doubles in three at-bats and drove in two runs. Anna Quinn had two hits, including a home run, and Lesslie Bohannon added two hits for GLHS. Holli Brooks had two RBIs. Kalei Kimbrell pitched the shutout, striking out four.

Sep 18 GLHS finished unbeaten in the SCORE International Invitational, knocking off Dalton 8-0, Union (Okla.) 3-0, Blessed Trinity 4-3, and Cass 8-0. Kalei Kimbrell and Brenna Nation won twice each for the Lady Trojans, who were declared tournament champion based on fewest runs allowed.

Sep 17 Gordon Lee beat Strong Rock Christian 5-1 and Murray County 11-0 on the opening day of the SCORE International Invitational.

Sep 14 The Lady Trojans pounded out 14 hits, including seven for extra bases, in a 14-0 defeat of North Cobb Christian. Sam Taylor was 3-for-3 with an RBI while Holli Brooks and Kelsie Bickett each had a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Kendall Johnson, Lesslie Bohannon, Brittany Lanham, Kaleigh Witt, and Anna Quinn also drove in runs. Kalei Kimbrell retired all 12 batters she faced in the four-inning game, striking out eight.

Sep 13 Gordon Lee blanked Darlington 8-0. Sam Taylor was 2-for-2 while Holli Brooks had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Anna Quinn had two RBIs. Lesslie Bohannon and Kendall Johnson added RBI doubles. Brenna Nation fired a one-hitter and struck out six in five innings.

Sep 11 The Lady Trojans blasted Gilmer 11-0 in their final game of pool play in the Cherokee Invitational before topping Dade County 7-2 and Northgate 4-2 in the first two rounds of bracket play. The championship game was rained out.

Sep 10 Gordon Lee opened pool play in the Cherokee Invitational with a 4-1 win over White County and a 3-0 shutout of Cherokee.

Sep 9 The Lady Trojans defeated Darlington 9-1. Lexis Robertson was 2-for-3 while Courtney Towns, Kaleigh Witt, and Lesslie Bohannon had RBI doubles. Kalei Kimbrell got the win, striking out two in the five-inning game.

Sep 7 Brenna Nation pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 as Gordon Lee beat Excel Christian 7-0. Kelsie Bickett was 2-for-3 while Courtney Towns, Sam Taylor, Holli Brooks, Lesslie Bohannon, and Nation all collected RBIs.

Sep 2 The Lady Trojans moved to 2-0 in region play with a 5-2 win over Trion. Sam Taylor was 3-for-4 and Kelsie Bickett and Holli Brooks had two RBIs each. Kalei Kimbrell allowed three hits and no walks while striking out nine to get the win. The JV team won 2-0.

Aug 30 Gordon Lee knocked off Northwest Whitfield 5-1. Holli Brooks and Anna Quinn were each 2-for-3. Quinn, Kelsie Bickett, and Lesslie Bohannon had run-scoring doubles. Brenna Nation got the win, striking out six. The JV team beat the Lady Bruins 5-0.

Aug 28 The JV team went 4-0 to win the Pepperell Invitational. GLHS defeated Trion 4-3, Pepperell 18-0, Woodland 6-0, and Rockmart 8-2.

Aug 26 The Lady Trojans opened region play by defeating North Cobb Christian 6-0. Sam Taylor was 2-for-2 with a home run. Kendall Johnson had a two-RBI triple and Kaleigh Witt had an RBI double. Brenna Nation struck out six in the win.

Aug 24 Gordon Lee beat Fannin County 9-1 in five innings. Courtney Towns had a double, a triple, and an RBI, Holli Brooks had two doubles and an RBI, while Brittany Lanham drove in a run with a triple. Brenna Nation was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits while striking out five in four innings of work.

Aug 23 The JV team defeated LFO 5-4. Brittany Lanham had a double, triple, and two RBIs, while Tori McElhaney and Sara Holcomb had one RBI each.

Aug 21 The Lady Trojans shut out LaFayette 10-0 and Cherokee 6-0 to go unbeaten in the LFO Invitational.

Aug 20 Gordon Lee picked up two wins in the LFO Invitational, edging Heritage 4-3 then topping LFO 5-2.

Aug 18 The Lady Trojans opened their season with a 1-0 win over LaFayette. Brenna Nation threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to get the win. Kendall Johnson was 2-for-3 and drove in the game's only run.
