Roberts wins, breaks state record
Derek Roberts won his second consecutive Class A state pole vault championship at the Georgia Olympics in Jefferson on Thursday, May 13. Roberts cleared 14-6 to break the old state record of 14-2 established in 2008. He is only the second two-time state champion from GLHS.
Bradbury wins state championship
GLHS sophomore Lil Bradbury won the Class A state championship in the high jump at the state meet in Albany on Friday, May 7. Bradbury had the top qualifying height entering the competition and cleared 5-2 for the win. It was the first individual championship for a Lady Trojan athlete since 1979.
Junior Anna Quinn was second in the pole vault for the second consecutive year. Also placing at the state meet were freshman Kalei Kimbrell (sixth in high jump), sophomore Kelsie Bickett (eighth in long jump), and sophomore Camilla Loggins (eighth in 3200m).
The Lady Trojans finished in 11th place overall.
2010 season updates
May 4The Trojans had two individual champions and placed third as a team in the Region 6-A meet. Derek Roberts won the pole vault and Aaron Mize captured the high jump for GLHS. Roberts also finished second in the high jump while Corey Jewell was second in the pole vault. Those three will compete in the state meet in Jefferson.
Apr 28 Gordon Lee finished third in the girls' Region 6-A meet. Individual winners were Anna Quinn, who cleared 10-6 in the pole vault to set a new school record, Lil Bradbury in the high jump, and Kendall Johnson, who placed first in the triple jump. Finishing second for the Lady Trojans were Kelsie Bickett in the long jump, Kalei Kimbrell in the high jump, and Camilla Loggins in the 800m and 3200m. All six qualified for the state meet in Albany.
Mar 26 The Lady Trojans finished second in the Gordon Lee Invitational, winning four events and setting meet records in two. Anna Quinn cleared 10-0 to set a new mark in the pole vault while Kendall Johnson leapt 33-8 3/4 in the triple jump to break both the meet and the school records. Other first-place winners for GLHS were Kelsie Bickett in the discus and Lil Bradbury in the high jump. The Trojans were sixth in the ten-team field. Derek Roberts was the only winner for Gordon Lee, clearing 14-2 in the pole vault to set a new school and meet record.
Mar 23 In a meet at Northwest Whitfield, the boys' team got wins from Aaron Mize and Derek Roberts while the girls' team had first-place finishes from Anna Quinn, Kelsie Bickett, Lesslie Bohannon, Sam Taylor, Camilla Loggins, Jessica Mummert, Kendall Johnson, and Lil Bradbury.
Mar 16 The Lady Trojans defeated Dade County, LFO, and CSAS in their season-opening meet. Camilla Loggins, Lil Bradbury, Sam Taylor, Anna Quinn, Kelsie Bickett, Kendall Johnson, Lexis Robertson, and Lesslie Bohannon finished first in their events. The Trojans were second in the meet, getting wins from Cory Kay, Blake Reynolds, Derek Roberts, David Berry, and Aaron Mize.
