2011 season updates

Oct 18 Gordon Lee's season ended with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 loss to Westminster in the second round of the state tournament. The Lady Trojans finished with a school-record 35 wins against only five losses.

Oct 12 The Lady Trojans defeated King's Ridge Christian 25-21, 15-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-8 in the first round of the state tournament. Sara Holder led GLHS with 25 kills. Sara Clayton added 10 kills, six blocks, and four aces. Kayla Pierce and Kaylea Breeden combined for 32 assists while Rachel Darr had a team-high 31 digs.

Oct 6 Gordon Lee beat Darlington 25-23, 25-14, in the losers' bracket finals of the Area 6-AA/A tournament, then took down top-seeded Sonoraville 13-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-12, to win its third consecutive Area championship. Sara Holder had 32 kills, 37 digs, and nine aces for the Lady Trojans. Kayla Pierce had 35 assists, 21 digs, and five aces while Kaylea Breeden added 31 assists and 22 digs. Rachel Darr had 39 digs to lead the defense. Holder, Pierce, Darr, and Jessica Powell were later named to the All-Area team. Coach Ed Clendenen was chosen as Area Coach of the Year.

Oct 4 The Lady Trojans defeated Darlington 25-8, 25-18, in the Area 6-AA/A tournament but lost to Sonoraville 25-21, 25-17, in the winners' bracket final. Sara Holder had 16 kills and 20 digs for GLHS. Jessica Powell had 10 kills and two blocks while Sara Clayton had eight kills and three aces. Kayla Pierce and Kaylea Breeden combined for 33 assists. Rachel Darr led the defense with 22 digs.

Oct 3 Gordon Lee defeated Calhoun 25-13, 25-7, in the Area 6-AA/A tournament. Sara Holder sparked GLHS with 12 kills and eight digs. Sara Clayton had seven kills and three aces while Kayla Pierce had 12 assists and five aces.

Sep 29 The Lady Trojans wrapped up a 29-3 regular season by beating LFO 25-11, 25-13, topping Temple 25-5, 25-6, and defeating Coahulla Creek 25-10, 25-12. Taylor Hartline led GLHS with 18 kills. Caroline Thomas and Sara Holder finished with 10 kills each while Holder added 15 digs and three aces. Kaylea Breeden had 35 assists and 22 digs, and Katie Barger recorded 17 assists, 10 digs, and six aces.

Sep 27 Gordon Lee handled Heritage 25-11, 25-14, 25-12 on Senior Night. GLHS got strong performances from seniors Sara Holder (15 kills, 15 digs, 3 aces), Jessica Powell (11 kills, 3 blocks), Kayla Pierce (20 assists, 10 digs), Kaylea Breeden (12 assists, 8 digs), Rachel Darr (17 digs), Beth Kizziah (8 digs, 6 kills), and Faith Williams (4 kills). The JV team defeated the Generals two sets to one.

Sep 26 The Lady Trojans defeated Ridgeland (25-14, 25-15) and Ringgold (25-16, 25-19) to improve their record to 25-3. Taylor Hartline led the offense with 18 kills. Sara Holder added 15 kills, 18 digs, and four aces. Sara Clayton had 12 kills, three blocks, and three aces while Jessica Powell had 10 kills and four blocks. Rachel Darr led the defense with 21 digs.

Sep 22 Gordon Lee swept a quad-match, beating Chattooga 25-8, 25-8, before stopping Coosa 25-18, 25-17, and Darlington 25-15, 25-21. Sara Holder had 17 kills and 13 digs on the night. Sara Clayton added 13 kills and three blocks. Jessica Powell had 11 kills and two blocks while Michelle Powell had seven aces. Kayla Pierce handed out 25 assists while Rachel Darr had 16 digs.

Sep 20 The Lady Trojans defeated Ridgeland 25-15, 25-13. Sara Holder had six kills and five aces for GLHS. Sara Clayton added five kills and an ace. Kaylea Breeden finished with 10 assists. Kayla Pierce had six assists and two aces while Rachel Darr collected 10 digs.

Sep 19 Gordon Lee won three Area matches, defeating Fannin County 25-11, 25-13, Adairsville 25-6, 25-11, and LFO 25-7, 25-12. Jessica Powell had 23 kills for GLHS and Sara Holder had 20 kills and 13 aces. Taylor Hartline added 14 kills. Kaylea Breeden handed out 28 assists while Kayla Pierce had 17 assists and six aces.

Sep 15 The Lady Trojans split a pair of Area matches, sweeping North Murray but falling to Sonoraville in three sets. Sara Holder led GLHS with 18 kills and 30 digs. Taylor Hartline added 12 kills. Rachel Darr had 28 digs while Kayla Pierce chipped in 18 digs and 29 assists. The JV team won both its matches.

Sep 13 Gordon Lee knocked off Heritage 25-13, 25-21, 25-17. Sara Clayton led GLHS with 12 kills. Sara Holder had 10 kills and six aces. Taylor Hartline had nine kills while Jessica Powell tallied eight kills and three blocks. Rachel Darr led the defense with 14 digs. Beth Kizziah added 10 digs. Kayla Pierce and Kaylea Breeden combined for 23 assists.

Sep 12 The Lady Trojans swept a pair of matches, defeating Coahulla Creek 25-15, 25-10, and Darlington 25-20, 25-19. Sara Holder had 14 kills, 12 digs, and four aces. Jessica Powell contributed 10 kills and four blocks, while Rachel Darr led the defense with 22 digs. Kayla Pierce finished with 15 assists, four aces, and three kills. Michelle Powell served six aces.

Sep 8 Gordon Lee improved its record to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in Area 6-AA/A with wins over Rockmart (25-6, 25-14) and Coahulla Creek (25-8, 25-8). Sara Holder and Jessica Powell had eight kills each while Sara Clayton had seven kills and 10 aces. Kayla Pierce handed out 13 assists and Kaylea Breeden added 10 assists and five aces.

Aug 29 The Lady Trojans topped LFO 25-23, 25-13, and beat LaFayette 25-13, 25-20, to improve their season record to 10-2. Sara Holder had nine kills against the Lady Warriors. Jessica Powell had eight kills while Michelle Powell and Sara Clayton added six each. In the second match Holder led GLHS with eight kills to go with 14 digs. Clayton had seven kills and Jessica Powell chipped in with four blocks. Kayla Pierce picked up eight assists and 15 digs while Kaylea Breeden finished with eight assists. The JV team split a pair of matches, defeating LFO 2-1 but falling to LaFayette 2-0.

Aug 27 Gordon Lee was 3-2 in the North Georgia Invitational at Heritage. In pool play the Lady Trojans defeated Ridgeland and Northwest Whitfield before losing to East Hamilton. GLHS began bracket play by beating Pickens but then lost again to eventual tournament champion East Hamilton. Sara Holder and Jessica Powell were named to the All-Tournament team.

Aug 25 The Lady Trojans opened Area play with a pair of wins. Gordon Lee beat Calhoun 25-12, 25-16, then defeated Coosa 25-13, 25-10. Jessica Powell led GLHS with nine kills. Kayla Pierce had eight assists and Beth Kizziah served three aces.

Michell Powell

Aug 23 Gordon Lee swept two matches, defeating Southeast Whitfield 25-14, 25-19, and topping CSAS 25-9, 25-19. Leaders for GLHS were Jessica Powell (13 kills, four blocks), Kaylea Breeden (11 assists), Rachel Darr (20 digs), and Michelle Powell (seven aces). The JV team also won its match, beating the Lady Raiders 2-0.

Aug 16 The Lady Trojans opened their season with a 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 26-24 win over Ringgold. Sara Holder had a match-high 21 kills to go with 31 digs. Jessica Powell added 12 kills and four blocks while Sara Clayton had 11 kills and three blocks. Taylor Hartline contributed 10 kills, including the match-winner. Kayla Pierce dished out 32 assists for GLHS, who got 21 digs from Rachel Darr and 14 digs from Beth Kizziah. The JV team dropped the first set to the Lady Tigers but bounced back to win 2-1.
