2010 season updates
Oct 19 The Lady Trojans season ended with a 25-21, 25-17 26-24 loss to Our Lady of Mercy in the second round of the state tournament. Sara Holder led GLHS with eight kills. Caroline Jewell finished with seven kills, while Alli O'Neal had six.
Oct 16 Gordon Lee overwhelmed Calloway 25-5, 25-11, 25-15 in the first round of the state tournament. Kayla Pierce led the Lady Trojans with 6 aces, 20 digs, and 15 assists. Lindsey Pierce added 17 assists and 7 digs. Alli O'Neal had a team-high 10 kills, Sara Holder had 9 kills, 13 digs, and 5 aces, while Jessica Powell and Caroline Jewell tallied 6 kills each. Sara Clayton chipped in 3 aces and 3 kills.
Oct 7 The Lady Trojans fell to the loser's bracket of the Area 6-AA/A tournament after a 25-23, 25-19 loss to Sonoraville, but came back to defeat Darlington 25-14, 14-25, 25-23 and force a rematch with the Lady Phoenix. GLHS then won a 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 15-9 marathon to capture its second straight Area title. Sara Holder had 16 kills, 10 digs, and six aces in the championship match. Caroline Jewell had 13 kills while Jessica Powell added 9.
Oct 5 Gordon Lee won two matches in the Area 6-AA/A tournament. GLHS topped Temple 25-12, 25-12 as Jessica Powell had 8 kills, Kayla Pierce had 11 assists, and Rachel Darr had 6 digs. The Lady Trojans then defeated North Murray with Sara Holder getting 6 kills and 10 digs, Lindsey Pierce dishing out 11 assists, and Alli O'Neal serving 5 aces.
Sep 30 The Lady Trojans dropped a three-set match to LFO but beat Rockmart and Darlington in straight sets to finish the regular season with a record of 29-3 and 8-0 in Area play.
Sep 28 Gordon Lee defeated LFO 25-8, 25-17, Sonoraville 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, and Adairsville 25-6, 25-8, to improve its record to 27-2 and clinch the top seed in the Area tournament. The 27 wins ties the school record for most wins in a season. Caroline Jewell led GLHS with 20 kills and 2 blocks. Alli O'Neal had 19 kills, 24 digs, and 4 aces while Sara Holder added 11 kills and 16 digs. Lindsey Pierce had 24 assists and 21 digs, Kayla Pierce had 20 assists and 16 digs, and Rachel Darr chipped in 24 digs. Katie Barger served 7 aces.
Sep 23 The Lady Trojans beat Ridgeland 25-15, 25-9, and Murray County 25-14, 25-18. Senior Caroline Jewell led GLHS with 16 kills on Senior Night. Fellow senior Lindsey Pierce had 18 assists and 13 digs. The JV team also defeated the Lady Panthers in straight sets.
Sep 21 Gordon Lee swept Adairsville, Calhoun, and Rockmart to improve its record to 22-2 overall and 6-0 in Area play. Sara Holder finished the night with 18 aces and 10 kills. Alli O’Neal had eight kills and Michelle Powell added six kills. Katie Barger and Lindsey Pierce dished out 10 assists each while both Beth Kizziah and Mary Whiteman had 12 digs.
Sep 16 The Lady Trojans ran their record to 5-0 in Area 6-AA/A matches by defeating North Murray 25-11, 25-12, Temple 25-9,25-8, and Rockmart 25-12, 25-15. Alli O'Neal had 17 kills, 20 digs, and 11 aces while Sara Holder had 16 kills, 22 digs, and 8 aces for GLHS. Lindsey Pierce had 36 assists, 14 digs, and 5 aces. Rachel Darr and Kayla Pierce added 25 and 18 digs, respectively. Lil Bradbury chipped in with 12 kills.
Sep 13 Gordon Lee picked up a pair of wins, beating LaFayette 25-15, 25-11, and Heritage 25-9, 25-20. Leaders for GLHS were Alli O'Neal with 11 kills, Sara Holder with 8 aces, and Kayla Pierce and Lindsey Pierce with 12 assists each.
Sep 9 The Lady Trojans won their first two Area matches of the season, sweeping Calhoun 25-4, 25-12, and LFO 25-12, 25-16. Leaders for GLHS were Caroline Jewell with 11 kills, Rachel Darr with 15 digs, Lindsey Pierce with 12 assists, and Alli O'Neal and Sara Holder with 8 aces each.
Sep 7 Gordon Lee lost to Ringgold 25-23, 25-22, but bounced back to defeat Calhoun 25-6, 25-10. Caroline Jewell had 7 kills, Rachel Darr had 16 digs, Alli O'Neal had 7 aces, and Kayla Pierce had 12 assists in the first match, while O'Neal had 8 kills, Sara Holder had 6 aces, and Beth Kizziah and Mary Whiteman had 6 digs each in the nightcap. The JV team remained unbeaten as they knocked off the Lady Tigers in straight sets.
Sep 2 The Lady Trojans split a pair of matches, falling to Southeast Whitfield 20-25, 26-24, 25-22 before rebounding to take out Sonoraville 25-21, 25-17. Lindsey Pierce dished out 18 assists to go with 12 digs and 4 aces for GLHS, while Kayla Pierce had 16 assists and 13 digs. Jessica Powell led the offense with 17 kills. Alli O'Neal had 11 kills and 16 digs. Rachel Darr led the defense with 21 digs. The JV team dominated the Lady Raiders to win in straight sets.
Aug 30 Gordon Lee beat Murray County 25-9, 25-14, and topped North Murray 25-13, 25-8. Alli O'Neal led the Lady Trojans with 17 kills and 6 aces. Lindsey Pierce also had 6 aces to go with 21 assists. Rachel Darr tallied 11 digs while Sara Holder had 10. The JV team remained undefeated with wins over the Lady Indians and the Lady Mountaineers.
Aug 26 The Lady Trojans rallied to defeat Ringgold 23-25, 28-26, 25-21, and LaFayette 16-25, 25-15, 25-11. Sara Holder had 22 kills, 26 digs, and 5 aces and Alli O'Neal totaled 20 kills, 28 digs, and 6 aces. Jessica Powell added 15 kills while Caroline Jewell and Lil Bradbury combined for 12 kills and 4 blocks. Kayla Pierce and Lindsey Pierce had 32 and 31 assists, respectively. Rachel Darr again led the team with 45 digs. The JV team also recorded two wins to improve its record to 4-0.
Aug 24 Gordon Lee ran its record to 6-0 with straight-set wins over Northwest Whitfield and Cartersville, and a three-set victory over Southeast Whitfield. The Lady Trojans were led by Alli O'Neal who had 16 kills, 16 digs, and 5 aces. Sara Holder had 14 kills, 10 digs, and 7 aces, Kayla Pierce had 20 assists and 16 digs, Lindsey Pierce had 27 assists and 19 digs, while Rachel Darr racked up 33 digs and 6 aces. Jessica Powell and Caroline Jewell had 10 kills each.
Aug 19 The Lady Trojans picked up a pair of victories, defeating Ridgeland 25-12, 25-13, and Southeast Whitfield 25-22, 25-21. Lindsey Pierce had 20 assists, 4 aces, and 12 digs, Sara Holder had 9 kills, 14 digs, and 8 aces, and Alli O'Neal had 9 kills, 12 digs, and 3 aces for GLHS. Jessica Powell also had 9 kills while Mary Whiteman added 4 aces. The JV team knocked off the Lady Panthers to improve its record to 2-0.
Aug 17 Gordon Lee opened its season with a 26-28, 25-20, 25-22 road win over LaFayette. Sara Holder had 17 digs and 12 kills for the Lady Trojans. Alli O'Neal had 14 digs and 11 kills, Lindsey Pierce had 15 digs and 11 assists, Kayla Pierce had 12 digs and 16 assists, while Rachel Darr led the team with 23 digs. The JV team also defeated the Lady Ramblers in three sets.
