National Junior Honor Society

About NJHS

The purposes of this organization are to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to serve the community, to train and support leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship in the students of GLMS.

Candidates are eligible for selection to this chapter after the first nine week grading period of their sixth grade year. To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, candidates must have been in attendance at GLMS for at least one nine week grading period. Candidates must have a minimum B average to be eligible for consideration. All students meeting the minimum academic requirement shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, citizenship, and character.

Students who wish to be considered for membership shall submit an application to the chapter adviser. Students’ academic records will be reviewed to determine minimum scholarship requirements are met. The faculty will be requested to review the list of eligible candidates. The Faculty Council will review the list of eligible candidates in order to determine membership. The selection of new members will be held once a year during the first semester. Candidates become official members when they are inducted at a special ceremony. Once selected, all members are expected to maintain the standards by which they were selected and continue to meet all obligations of membership.
