Thanks to students remembering to bring in their social studies connected items we had an AWESOME show and tell day on Friday. We had a huge selection of items. Civil War artifacts, Korean toys, German souvenirs, a spear and shield from Africa, newspaper clippings, kimonos, arrowheads, uniforms and other belongings of servicemen who have served our country, along with currency from all over the world names just some of the fantastic items shared. Thank you especially to Mr. Trull for sharing his naval experience and teaching us how to "read" a navy uniform. And, I know that everyone enjoyed seeing Spencer W.'s sugar gliders!!!

I hope all of your families enjoy Thanksgiving Break. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

NOVEMBER!!!!!

With the beginning of our second nine weeks back in mid-October, our studies switched from Australia to Europe. We have been focused on the geography and culture of the continent. Tuesday, November 10th, we will have a test over major physical features, language families, religions, and the effect of literacy rate on the standard of living. After the test, students will be turning in their folder work from this unit. Environmental issues in Europe will be our next topic of study.

Thursday, September 24th

Whew! September has flown (or maybe floated) by in a hurry! We have been studying the history of Australia focusing on the Aborigines and colonization by Great Britain. Our class has also been looking at the culture of Australia and how that was impacted by the country's history. We will be wrapping up our Australia study by looking at the country's economy and government. The Australia test is scheduled for the end of next week.

Thursday, September 10th

We are now studying Australia. We have been doing research on famous locations in the library. Each student has created a postcard about the location which includes an illustration on the front and a letter home on the back. Those postcards are homework over the weekend if not finished in class Friday.

Tuesday, August 25th

We will be having our What is Social Studies test on Thursday. It will cover basic Social Studies vocabulary (10 words) as well as being able to match up the Connecting Themes with examples. Thursday and Friday we will be putting together our first "floppy folder" packet which is made up of the classwork students have been keeping in their floppy folder (and your review sheets - so be sure to keep up with them!!!). Students will have a checklist to help them be sure that they have all of their work and that it is complete and in order. Floppy folder packets will be turned in Monday.

Friday, August 21st

Students have their graded continents, oceans, and map parts test in their possession. Students be sure to show your test to your parents!!!! Grades on the test were excellent! Yesterday and today we have been working in groups with each group being assigned a connecting theme to explore and about which to create a poster. Each groups will be presenting their poster and explaining their connecting theme to the class on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Monday, August 17th
