GLMS wrestlers sweep NGAC championships
The Gordon Lee Middle School wrestling team capped off a perfect 14-0 season by winning the 2008 North Georgia Athletic Conference Duals tournament and the NGAC Traditional tournament, both held at Heritage. The Trojans previously won both titles in 2005.
GLMS defeated Rossville, Ringgold, and LaFayette to win the Duals crown.
Gordon Lee won the Traditional tournament championship by outscoring runner-up LaFayette 247-192.5. The Trojans had five individual champions and four second-place winners. One wrestler finished third and three finished fourth.
2008 season updates
Dec 20 Gordon Lee won its second NGAC Traditional tournament championship, piling up 247 points to top second-place LaFayette by 54.5 points. Will Jacks, Kory Allmond, Micah Clark, Blake Clayton, and Alex Spires all brought home individual championships for GLMS. Finishing second in their weight class were Tucker Holdbrooks, Chase Wood, Paxton Byrd, and Corey Jewell. Dustin Bowers placed third while Nick Cooley, Jordan Queen, and Randall Smith were fourth.
Dec 19 The JV wrestlers placed second in the NGAC JV Traditional tournament. Stihl Lance and Dustin Stone won individual championships for GLMS. Austin Yarbrough and Jonathan Bettis finished second, Kalen Bradley, Jameson Mullinax, Shane Farmer, and Dallas Goodlet placed third, while Tyler Beene and Austin Brownfield were fourth.
Dec 13 The Trojans won their second NGAC Duals championship, topping LaFayette 42-29 in the finals. GLMS also defeated Rossville 48-36 before beating Ringgold 63-15 in the tournament's semifinals.
Dec 9 Gordon Lee won two more dual matches. The Trojans shut out Chattanooga Valley 84-0 and defeated Trion 60-13.
Dec 6 The JV wrestlers brought home five individual championships from a tournament at Heritage. Stihl Lance, Austin Yarbrough, Jake Hovey, Nick Cooley, and Dustin Stone were all tops in their weight class. Jordan Queen finished second, Jonathan Bettis and Haden Templeton each placed third, while Tucker Holdbrooks, Caleb Mariakis, Jameson Mullinax, and Shane Farmer were fourth-place finishers.
Nov 25 The Trojans swept four dual matches, beating Heritage 48-21, Lake Forest 54-19, Gilmer 43-37, and Tullahoma 76-5.
Nov 22 Gordon Lee took first place in the Ocoee Middle School Wrestling Tournament with 214 points. Cleveland was second with 204.5 points. Individual winners for the Trojans were Will Jacks, Paxton Byrd, and Alex Spires. Finishing second were Corey Allmond, Blake Clayton, Nick Cooley, Dustin Stone, Chase Wood, and Mika Clark. Dustin Bowers, Jordan Queen, and Randall Smith each placed fourth.
Nov 21 The Trojans defeated Lakeview 58-15 in a dual match.
Nov 15 Gordon Lee won the Trojan Invitational tournament, piling up 244 points to finish 79 points ahead of second-place Heritage. Individual winners for GLMS were Mika Clark, Alex Spires, and Corey Jewell. Will Jacks, Dustin Bowers, Chase Wood, Blake Clayton, and Paxton Byrd each finished second in their weight class. Kory Allmond placed third while Dustin Stone and Austin Brownfield finished fourth.
Nov 11 The Trojans won two more matches, getting by Dade County 43-28 and blasting Dalton 77-3.
Nov 4 Gordon Lee picked up two big wins to open its season. The Trojans beat Ringgold 64-10 and then topped Rossville 84-0.
